Long Pepper powder
Long Pepper used to be a very popular spice that has lessened in popularity over the centuries. The spice arrived in ancient Greece form India where it has the name of Pippali - the root word that pepper stems from. The Romans eventually spread the spice all over Europe. Long pepper became less popular because it was harder to grow outside of India. This made the spice scarce and more expensive than it's cousin, black pepper. The taste of long pepper is said to be complex, with a sweet tone and a little citrus flavour. In Ayurvedic medicine, long pepper is used in its fresh and dried state for many aliments.
